Yesterday I confessed to my crush.
Wow. Here's how it went: He was a good friend of mine. I wrote a small note to him (because I was too chicken to tell him) and gave it to him at the beginning of 7th period. It was a really simple note that went something like this: "i like you please read: i like your personality and how you genuinely care about people. if you don't like me back, that's ok - I hope this doesn't make it too awkward between us and we can continue to be great friends." Throughout the whole class, I was stressing out. I sat at the front of the classroom and he sat near the back, meaning I couldn't see his reaction. I've never stressed this hard before. At the end of class, I was ready to bolt out the door. Then, he comes up to me and says, "Deborah, I didn't read the note yet." I was going to punch a wall. I went to my next class. Thank goodness I don't see him for the rest of the day. I actually almost forgot about it all when I got home... until I got a bunch of texts from him. He said stuff about how he liked me as soon as we started talking (more than a year ago) and how he cares about me. He said that he would try his best to not make things awkward (he's a really nice guy). Then, half-an-hour later, before I read those texts, he texts again and says that he's still confused on his feelings and says that we should be good friends until he figures stuff out. So yeah, that's how it went. I didn't ask him out or anything, I just told him how I felt. I think he was trying to say that he likes me but doesn't want to date until we knew each other better, and just wants to be great friends (for now). I think it turned out pretty good. I was super scared that I would ruin our friendship with my confession. You're probably reading this because you want to confess to your crush. Let me tell you this: after you do this, it'll feel like a HUGE weight has been lifted off your shoulders. Here's my advice on how to confess to your crush: 1.) To begin, determine whether or not YOU'RE ready for the outcome. Can you handle a "sorry, I don't like you" or an "I like you back"? Be ready to accept your crush's response. 2.) Figure out your relationship with your crush. In my case, my crush and I were good friends. Does your crush know you? Are you two acquaintances? Does your crush even know you exist? Knowing this can help you decide if you're going to confess. 3.) Find as much information as you can. My friend, my crush's ex, said that my crush used to like me last year (the two are just friends now. Both are really nice) which kind of persuaded me to confess. Listen to any rumors, too. 4.) Look for signs. Do you think he/she likes you back? It's all up to instinct. Trust your gut. 5.) Remember that not all confessions turn our well. Mine was one of the better ones. Your's could have a bad outcome. Prepare yourself. 6.) Figure out how you'll confess. In-person, in a note/letter, or over text, etc.? Think about how much courage you have. If you're brave enough to say it in person, do it. If not, like me, a note or over text is a better option. 7.) Plan. After figuring out how to confess, figure out all the details. If you're confessing over text or in a note, figure out what to say when you two see next see each other. If you're doing it in person, think about how to approach him/her and what to do after confessing. Don't overthink it, though. When you actually get to the moment, you'll find yourself forgetting most of your plan and just going along with whatever comes to your head. 8.) Make your speech. Whether you're confessing in a note, in-person, or over text, you need to have a basic outline on what to write/type/say. My advice: For text/paper, don't write a whole paragraph. Write something cute like "hi I like you pls read:". For in-person, say something like: "Hey, I've liked you for a while/a long time, and I wanted to talk to you about it." Then, list 2 or 3 reasons why you like him/her. Not the basic "you're kind" or "you're honest". Those phrases are really lame and probably won't mean anything to your crush. Instead, write something like "I like the way you ..." or list a specific event, like "That time you... really touched me." After, say that it's ok if they don't like you back, so you're crush won't feel super guilty. Remember, they'll be stressed, too. 9.) Prepare yourself and drain out your courage for this. I spent a whole week just stressing about the confession. It's ok, take your time. 10.) Do it. Confess. If it's at school, do it at recess or the beginning/end of the day. If it's over text or on paper, proofread it before sending/giving it to him/her. 11.) You did it!!!! I'm proud of you. It takes real guts to do this. Again, this is just advice from my personal experience. I hope it helped! -Deborah

Your college, job, and even retirement all depend on your performance in high school. I understand, it's totally stressful. I've compiled some hacks and tips that will hopefully make your high school experience easier:
-Study for short periods of time and take breaks, instead of cramming for 2 hours straight. -Use Quizlet, Grammarly, and Google Scholar. -Go to the bathroom at the start of the day (preferably at home), lunch, and end of the day. -When given a PPT, write the main point of each slide in one sentence. -Say hi/bye to teachers when entering/leaving the classroom -Participate and raise your hands. -Keep empty hall passes in hand. -Get to know your teachers and counselors. -Keep a small stash of snacks to get through the day. -Have a good note-taking pen. -Make group chats with classmates to discuss questions. -Get to class early on the first day for a good seat. -Keep a calculator. -Keep an emergency kit (mints, hair ties, deodorant, etc.). I hope you've found these tips helpful! You probably already know that. You also probably already know that K-pop is slowly taking over the music industry with its popularity. K-pop is a big part of my life and I just wanted to write about it.
My friend introduced me to K-pop in September of 2017. I. FELL. IN. LOVE. The visuals of K-pop group members and their songs really captured my attention. Since I'm not Korean, I had no idea what any song meant-but that was the beauty of it. Anyways, the first K-pop group I stanned (which means to extremely like) was BTS. This is the boy group that's sweeping over the world and gaining millions of fans. Slowly, I opened my eyes to the whole K-pop industry and started loving other groups. Below, I'm going to list my top 3 ultimate groups along with my bias (favorite member) in each: 1. BTS-boy group; bias: Jungkook 2. NCT-boy group; bias: CAN'T CHOOSE 3. Blackpink- girl group; bias: Lisa (FACT: Blackpink is actually coming to my area this summer for their world tour but I can't go because I couldn't get tickets; they sold when I was at school.) Other groups I like: ~IKON-boy group; bias: Jinhwan ~Red Velvet-girl group; bias: CAN'T CHOOSE ~Twice-girl group; bias: Tzuyu ~EXO-boy group; bias: CAN'T CHOOSE ~Seventeen-boy group; bias: CAN'T CHOOSE I also like Taemin's solo songs (he's a member of Shinee). So, folks, those are the K-pop groups I stan. As you can see, K-pop holds a special place in my heart. If you have any K-pop knowledge/questions/comments, comment below! KPOP FANS UNITE! -Deborah |
